The Boy Next Door-C8

Chapter 8

As I said the happy moment usually didn’t last long for me. The morning soon took over the place of the moon in the sky. Clock in my living room who gave a loud gong awakened me. Josh was already waken up when I woke up.

“Good morning, sleepy head.” Josh greeted me.

“Hi, I’m sorry that I lie on your arms all night.” I greeted back.

“It’s ok. I never ever seen a person in my life who talked in a minute and fell asleep in another minute.” Josh said amusingly.

“Go ahead and laugh but I was really tired no thanks to you.” I explained.

“All right I got to go as both of us are definitely going to be late for school. See you in school.” Josh left after saying this.

I did my morning routine all over again. I got changed into a white long sleeve cotton shirt and a pair of simple black jeans. It was a pretty casual outfit but I felt comfortable in it. I put my bag pack over my shoulder and drove to school as usual. School as usual was flooded with students rushing for class. I fasten up my footsteps to catch up with Sarah and friends.
“Hi Natalie, I can’t believe that Nancy got a soft side and you and her had just became friends. I heard that Nancy is two timing Josh. We saw Nancy kissing Brad the basketball player. Poor Josh who was still in the dark about that.” Sarah gossiped into my ears.
I had simply no doubt about Nancy’s characters. I thought it was a relieve for Josh. I didn’t want to be the one who broke the news to Josh. I went to class and sat beside Sarah as what I usually did. Somehow Sarah’s words hit my heart totally as it reflected on how I handled with guys. I missed Scott so suddenly. I began to wonder how was he and decided to give him a ring during my lesson.

“Hi Scott, I’m Natalie here.” I started.

“Hi Natalie, how have you been? I just started to think of you just now.” Scott replied.

“Fine, you know new house, new school, new friends and new neighbours. I kind of miss you here suddenly and so here I am calling you.” I replied.

“Well I was still hoping that some day we could get back together.” Scott confessed.

“Scott, we are friends now aren’t we?” I asked with hesitation.

“I knew what you meant, of course we are. I gonna go. Call me again as I missed you.” Scott answered.

“Sure I will, see ya.” I hung up my mobile phone as I said that.

“Wow who’s the guy you talking with? I didn’t know you have a boyfriend.” Sarah asked.

“No, he was just a friend. All right he was my ex- boyfriend.” I admitted.

“Well not bad to call your ex-lover boy during lesson.” Sarah teased me.

“Come on, just a call.” I exclaimed.

I stopped the conversation with Sarah and paid attention to the teacher instead. Josh was sitting against the chair restlessly. I bet he got any sleep last night and somehow it made me remorseful over it. I pondered about love again. I questioned myself so often whether my heart was opened to the guy I liked. My stubbornness was stronger than my passion of love.

My mom and dad agreed that I let go of the right guys. I was not even sure with myself sometimes about my way of love life. I began to think back all my past love life in class. Sarah interrupted my thinking to tell me that Josh had broke up with Nancy.

It didn’t surprise me at all somehow. In a flash, I felt that I needed to talk to Josh. I thought I might console him or something but he didn’t turn up for school. I helped him in taking down all the notes and his homework. I saw Josh going out of the school during break time. I drove off to the horses’ place he once brought me. I was affirmed that he was there as there was the place where he had a best friend over there. I didn’t saw Josh and his horse. I went to look for the instructor to ask about him. He was at the hilltop and the only way to get there was either by riding a horse or walking. I chose to ride and this was the first time I rode a horse. The instructor helped me up the horse and advised me to relax. I did what he said and rode the horse all the way up to hilltop with a lot of fear. I saw Josh sitting on the green pasture of grass. I got off the horse and walked towards him.

“Hi, mister I thought you should be in school at this time.” I greeted him.

“Well not exactly, as today was moody day for me and I was accompanied by a horse and a young lady who rode a horse bravely the first time.” josh replied.

“Come on, it was her loss. Cheer up.” I said musingly.

“It’s not about losing her but a trust being betrayed. I don’t know why I dated with her from the first place and ended in this mess. Have you ever come to a state that you simply have no idea what is the objective of your love life anymore?” Josh explained.

“Josh I had more relationships than you do. It didn’t turn up the way I wanted it. When I started to think back, I felt so lost in my life. The song by Cake, ‘I will survive’ gave me all the strength all over again. You got to overcome the phobia in you just like me. It’s getting dark, let’s go to the supermarket. I’ll cook dinner and you are invited to the dinner.” I persuade him.

He smiled to show me sign of agreement. We rode back to the stable as the sunset behind us casting our long shadows on ground. Josh kissed his horse goodbye before we went to the supermarket. We shopped around the supermarket with the trolley. We bought back steaks, champagne, vegetables and tubs of ice cream. I drove back home with the food and Josh went back home.
